"Hypnolee" Answers Your Questions on Hypnosis

Q & A

It's Not Like the Late Show
When you hear someone mention hypnosis, the image you picture is probably similar to Vincent Price on the late late show. The hypnotist has big piercing eyes and has you stare at a swinging gold watch.

The intention of this page is to show hypnosis as it truly is.

Introducing Lee Silen - "Hypnolee"

Lee Silen portrait Lee Silen is a nationally known motivational hypnotist and speaker. Lee is a native of Washington state, and feels his 15 years in sales taught him more about human nature and dealing with people than any other training he has had in his many years as a motivational hypnotist.

Lee does not possess any type of power or gift, but has learned how to give suggestions in a positive, helpful way.

Hypnosis was a hobby for Lee for many years before he started working with it on a full time basis in 1974. He has appeared on four of the local TV stations, spoke at both of Evansville's universities and all the high schools. Lee has also appeared on numerous radio talk shows around the country and has been on NBC Sporting News with a client of his, famous Detroit Tigers pitcher Mark "The Bird" Fidrych. Understanding Hypnosis

There are many people who have heard of the wonderful results accomplished through hypnosis, and feel that it could also be helpful to them. Even so, many people are afraid of hypnosis because of misinformation acquired over the years from horror movies, novels, or television. The average person has a misconception of what hypnosis is and what can be accomplished through hypnosis.

If a suggestion that is not appealing is given to a person while in the hypnotic state, one of two things would happen: the person in the hypnotic state would either ignore the suggestion or would bring himself out of the hypnotic state.

The intention of this page is to show hypnosis as it really is. The hypnotherapist does not possess any type of magic power or gift, but has learned how to give suggestions that the subconscious mind will accept, and then act on those suggestions in a positive way.

What Hypnosis Is - And Isn't

To explain what hypnosis is, it might be better to explain what hypnosis is not.

When people are hypnotized, they are not asleep or in any eerie trance state. The hypnotized individual is aware of everything that is taking place. Even after being brought out of hypnosis, a person will be able to recall everything that took place during the session.

Hypnosis is a very normal, natural state that most of us experience every day. An example of daily hypnosis would be driving a car and realizing that you can't remember the last three or four streets you just passed. Perhaps you drove right by your exit! Another example would be a person watching television. When another member of the family enters and announces that dinner is ready, the person watching television did not even blink an eye!

These are examples of a light hypnotic state. In both cases, the conscious part of the mind had been distracted, allowing the subconscious part of the mind to take over.

During a hypnotic session, an individual will achieve a very deep and successful state of hypnosis. The following are questions that are frequently asked by individuals prior to being hypnotized.

Who Can Be Hypnotized?

Lee has hypnotized thousands of people in both group and private sessions and has yet to find a person who cannot be hypnotized.

What If You Can't Bring Me Out Of It?

There is no danger of a person failing to come out of the hypnotic state. In fact, it would be impossible to remain hypnotized. Even if the hypnotherapist left the office while an individual was in the hypnotic state, there would be no danger. The person would drift off into a natural state of sleep and would awaken after he was rested.

Is There Any Danger with Hypnosis?

The only time hypnosis could be dangerous would be if it would be used to take away necessary pain. For example, if an individual were to be hypnotically released from the pain of a stomach ache, he would not have the pain to let him know that there is a medical problem.

It has been noted after most hypnotic sessions, subjects report that they sleep better at night and are more relaxed during their daily life.

Will I Do or Say Something Against My Will?

When you are hypnotized, you are aware of all suggestions given you, and you will not do or say anything that you are opposed to doing.

Top

Are Weak-Minded People Easier to Hypnotize?

No. In fact, it is usually found that stronger-minded and stronger-willed persons who want to be hypnotized, achieve excellent results from hypnosis.

Top

Can I Be Tricked While In the Hypnotic State?

A person cannot be tricked into doing something under hypnosis any easier than he could in a nonhypnotic state.

Top

Is Hypnosis Habit Forming?

No. Hypnosis is a very enjoyable state of relaxation, but a person never becomes addicted to hypnosis.
